Workshop @ 9:00 am |
By Mihir Trivedi
I called it "workshop at
nine". Mostly workshops are very interesting as they are
very interactive, but this particular workshop at the
British Council Library auditorium was just as boring as
the name suggested- Future of Publishing, although the
dress code was casuals but the thoughts shared by the
three conductors were highly technical. The seminar was
kick-started by two English gentlemen -Kevin Boorman and
Neil Braddock, (both working for a e-zine in England as
Editors) and Kurnal Rawat (an expert in communication
artist and design researcher, India).
After having a cup of coffee, it was clear to tea break
it was clear to us that we were going to make an e-zine
for youngsters in Mumbai (Mumbaikers), so we were
divided into 4groups each group had to come up with
ideas and suggestions, which could be incorporated into
making the E-zine. It was end of day 1 by then, and task
at home was to think about a suitable Name for the
website. So the next day was all filled with excitement
and fast running adrenaline supported with tones of
wacky ideas in every single mind. It was here that I
heard the most bizarre of names for a website, things
like 'wuzup' ' dhamaka.com' "bombay.com" etc,
contempraryyoung.com, somethingnew.com, but there was
one name out of the many which struck the chord…… it was
" Anything Goes.Com", which earned instant unanimous
approval.
So the name was done and it was time to set the layout
of the website including the material which was of
utmost importance. all of us were not from designing
background so content creation was our job, so all of us
were given separate articles to write for the fictitious
website, we clicked pictures were the internet was not
useful, thought of innovative ideas which could be
incorporated, some of the girls even taught Kevin "Mumbaiya"
that's Mumbai slang, which when heard with Kevin's
accent sounded hilarious. Our small efforts here and
there could lead to such a success was just
unimaginable, by the end of the third day "Anything goes
.com was ready with its entire active links. It looked
beautiful and so real especially with our creative
content flashing up made it look like some sort of
hallucination trip to us. Each one of us had worked very
hard for these three days to get "anything goes.com
going into its preliminary stage. The three day
association with colleagues seems like a life long
bonding and we r still connected with each other through
"bombaythings.com", a Blog formed during the workshop.
The best thing about the whole workshop was the food and
refreshments served to us, and so whenever we were stuck
on some thing, or out of ideas, or simply exhausted with
work we would go out grab some biscuits, or lunch if
it's ready and just have a nice time chatting with each
other because anything goes……….
