STAR India – the
most popular channel of India; since DISHNET revolutions
has ruled the television industry. Recently it was
learned that the STAR India has split itself into two
separate divisions i.e. STAR Group India and STAR
Entertainment India, which will be headed by Peter
Mukerjea (Former CEO of STAR India) and Sameer Nair
(Former COO of STAR India) respectively.
STAR India has earned its credibility by capturing the
attention of cosmo spectators by providing numerous
options according to the taste and mood of its viewers.
For instance, STAR PLUS has dominated the maximum
viewers through revolutionalizing daily soap oeuvre with
“Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi”, which later followed
by all other Balaji Telefilms series of serial. As
observed by research studies it was being monotonous ,
they launched peppy and more frivolous channel ‘STAR
ONE’, which has introduced varied shades of serials like
‘Special Squad’ and ‘Siddhant’ on a Law squabble,
“Remix”- peppy flick for youngsters, ‘Super Sale’ and ‘Bluffmaster’-
a gaming zone, ‘Instant Khichadi’, ‘Sarabhai Vs.
Sarabhai’- a comic-stripe and many others to touch
unique array of genres.

STAR Entertainment India
comprises all the television channels of the STAR
bouquet, including wireless and the Internet. As the CEO
of this division, Nair will oversee all the day-to-day
operations, including programming, marketing,
advertising sales and distribution. He will also pursue
growth opportunities in new media, including wireless
and the Internet. Nair will be reporting to Steve Askew-
a newly appointed COO of STAR, who is also the president
of STAR Entertainment India.
In his expanded role, Askew will oversee STAR’s
operating divisions across the region, with his
portfolio stretching from India to Taiwan, Hong Kong,
Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia,
Thailand and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Mukerjea, as head of STAR Group India, will
be responsible for STAR India’s joint ventures.
Currently, STAR India has joint ventures in DTH venture
Tata Sky; distribution network Hathway; production house
Balaji Telefilms, and Hindi news channel MCCS. Mukerjea
will also look at developing other joint venture
projects and business opportunities in India. In
addition, Mukerjea will handle all corporate functions
such as legal, finance, government affairs and corporate
communications. Both Mukerjea and Askew will report to
Michelle Guthrie, CEO, STAR.€
Commenting on this development in an official communiqué
to one of the sections of media, Guthrie said, “The
rep-organization reflects the scale to which our
operations have grown in India.”
According to her, the new structure will enable STAR
India to optimize its resources in expanding its
leadership position in the television landscape, while
aggressively creating new opportunities in India’s
thriving marketplace.
