Celeb Life :: Shaken Not Stirred |
By Shweta Poojari
Accidents, jail visits, MMS clips when combined with
a celeb life make a combination more potent than vodka
martini. The news which has a 'celebrity angle' attached
to it is demanded more. Celebrities make news because
people want to read them.
People are interested in knowing what is happening in
their personal lives. Why? Because these days in the
pretext of informing people media is taking them into
the personal lives of stars. We find ourselves
emotionally attached to the stars and we start looking
up to the stars as our idols. We will cry when our
favorite celebrity is in trouble and we laugh along with
them. However, media has to realize that the celebrities
have their own personal lives, just like you and me.
Media created hype out of nothing in the case of Salman
Khan being put behind bars. All it needed to inform
people was the grounds on which he was convicted but out
of old habit, it had to tell a fairy tale as it has
imbibed in people the habit of digesting only fairy
tales. The news also featured whether a fan in the jail
cell, were there any mosquitoes, what food he ate, etc.
Even John Abraham was not spared from the glare. His
accident was a minor one as per the doctors but the
newspapers carried the story and made a big issue out of
it. Media has to realize that there are more important
things to tell and inform about via the medium of
newspapers and television than just simply putting
celebrities on the forefront just to sell their work.
When there was an expose of Shahid and Kareena's kissing
scene, there was a commotion created in all the news
channels. All the news channels were again and again
showing the same clippings, all the newspapers carried
the same news. Why was this entire scene created by
media? Do we need to know what do the stars do in their
free time? Do we need know about their love affairs? As
long as their demand is in the market, people will watch
and read such news media will supply but as long as the
supply is limitless demand will not stop. Media should
realize that it should draw a line of limit to its
supply.
Media needs to realize that it's high time and it should
stop sensationalizing news for no reason at all. The
media is not doing what it is supposed to do, it is
supposed to inform people about what is happening around
the globe and not recite a fairy tale. |
