School of Broadcasting & Communication is affiliated to Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, Asia's only journalism university, established a decade earlier at the behest of India's former Prime Minister, Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi 

August 20, 1944 - May 21, 1991

with the view to impart quality education and training in mass media. Named after the renowned Journalist, poet and freedom fighter Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi, the University has become an institution of repute in various disciplines ranging from journalism, mass communication, public relations, advertising, photography to highly sophisticated electronic media-radio, television, cyber journalism, videography and printing technology.

The vice president of India is the 'Kuladhyaksha' of the University. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is the Chairman of the General Council, which is the supreme decision making authority. The council includes a member of Lok Sabha, a member of Rajya Sabha, Chairman of the Press Council of India, ten members representing different states of the country- five of them appointed by the chief ministers and five representing five Indian languages.

The University has collaborated with leading newspaper and media houses for conducting degree programmes, which are practical and employment oriented. The University has an established alumni working with leading television channels and publications in India.
